Girls on the Run 5k on Long Island: Celebrating Confidence and Accomplishment
The Girls on the Run (GOTR) program on Long Island recently held its much-anticipated 5K celebration, marking the culmination of another successful season. This event provided girls of all ages and abilities with a tangible sense of accomplishment, embodying the program's mission to instill confidence through completion.
3rd and 4th Grade girls from Northside Elementary in East Williston participated in the run. The students' hard work and determination helped them cross the finish line, a major accomplishment of the program.
Each participant received a commemorative medal, a symbol of their dedication and perseverance throughout the season. These medals are more than just tokens; they represent the confidence and self-belief that the girls have built throughout the season, knowing they can set and achieve their goals.
The success of the Northside group would not have been possible without the incredible support from their teacher and parent coaches, Monica Gibson, Holly Conklin, Emily Ramos, Michele Battista and Jeannie Petti.
Their encouragement, guidance, and logistical support played a crucial role in the girls' journey, fostering an environment where each participant felt motivated and empowered.
“The GOTR program helps young girls learn about themselves – physically, emotionally and socially. It empowers them to make good life choices and stand for themselves and others,” said Gibson. “I enjoy seeing the girls develop those skills and watching them learn how capable they truly are.”
The celebration at the end of the race was filled with pride and cheers, underscoring this community's role in fostering these young athletes' growth and confidence.
The GOTR 5K on Long Island was not just a race; it was a celebration of empowerment, resilience, and the enduring spirit of all the remarkable girls that ran the race.
The program teaches the girls that with determination and support, they could accomplish anything they set their minds to, carrying this confidence into all areas of their lives.
“It’s the program I wish I had when I was their age!” said Gibson.
