Herricks High School proudly announces that 21 of its student musicians have been named to the prestigious New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State roster. Of these, eight students will represent the school at the All-State Conference in Rochester, NY, this December. Achieving All-State status is considered the highest honor for a high school musician in New York, with only 800 students selected out of over 6,000 auditions statewide.
The students, representing a diverse range of instruments from strings to wind and percussion, earned their spots by achieving perfect scores in their auditions, which included solo performances, sight-reading, and scale work. The honored students are: Connor Chang, Constantine Cheung, Adam Chu, Amanda Cui, Edwin Ko, Albert Kuo, Julia Lam, Kloie Liao, Angelina Liu, Lucas Ma, Nicholas Quan, Andrew Simons, Joelle Tan, Sharath Venkatesan, Anderson Wang, Maximus Wong, Ryan Yen, and Corey Yuen.
Director of Music and Performing Arts, Anissa Arnold, expressed pride in the students’ accomplishments, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the music educators who have guided these young talents. “Congratulations to each of these students and to all the music teachers from K-12 who have influenced them along the way to this milestone,” she said.
During the conference, these outstanding musicians will have the opportunity to perform under nationally recognized conductors in ensembles such as symphonic band, wind ensemble, symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, and mixed choir. The performances will take place at the historic Eastman Theatre in downtown Rochester.
Herricks High School and its music department look forward to the event as a celebration of student achievement and a testament to the strength of the school’s music program. Good luck to them all!
