Herricks High School Winter Sports Preview
By Alexander Brosky
As the fall season for Section VIII sports concludes, the winter season is just around the corner. Here's a look at what to expect from Herricks High School's winter sports teams:
Boys Basketball
The boys' basketball team finished 2-12 in league play last season, missing the playoffs. This year, they face a tough challenge as they adapt to the loss of leading scorer Stevie Aulicino, who transferred to a private school. The team will need new leaders to step up if they hope to turn things around this season.
Girls Basketball
The girls' basketball team had a solid 8-6 season last year, making it to the playoffs before falling to Levittown Division in the first round. While they’ve lost key players to graduation, the rising underclassmen bring promise and potential for another playoff push—and perhaps a deeper run this year.
Boys Fencing
The boys’ fencing team enjoyed a strong 7-3 finish last year. With many key players returning, they are poised to maintain their winning momentum. A push to top the division is well within reach this season.
Girls Fencing
The girls’ fencing team had a respectable 6-5 record last year, with a remarkable +41 match differential. For comparison, Division 2 champions Manhasset finished 9-2 with a +43 differential. The Herricks girls often won big and lost narrowly, signaling a lot of potential for success this season. They have the talent to match or even surpass the boys’ achievements this year.
As Herricks athletes prepare for the winter season, they continue to grow, improve, and push to be as competitive as possible. Stay tuned for more updates on Herricks High School sports!
