By Williston Post Staff
On Saturday morning, September 28, 2024, a special ceremony was held at Eisenhower Park War Memorial where over a hundred new names were inscribed on the "Wall of Honor," a tribute maintained by local Veterans Organizations. Among those honored was Arthur I. Buckhout, a lifelong Nassau County resident and one of the first WWII members of American Legion Post 144 in Williston Park.
Despite the drizzly weather, a dedicated group of attendees came together to pay tribute to their loved ones and fallen heroes. The touching moments were captured by Wendy Mitchell, granddaughter of Buckhout, as families gathered to reflect and express their gratitude.
The ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by so many and the importance of preserving their legacy. Eisenhower Park’s Wall of Honor stands as a testament to these brave individuals, ensuring that their contributions are never forgotten.
