Troop 201 Eagle Candidate Enhances Ridder's Pond Park with a Free Library
By Michael Keating
During his breaks from college this September, Troop 201 Eagle Candidate Jeffrey Polanski returned home to Manhasset Hills to work on his inspiring Eagle Project at Ridder's Pond Park. His initiative involved creating a free library book stand in front of the playground, offering park-goers the opportunity to take or leave books for others to enjoy.
Jeffrey, alongside fellow Troop 201 scouts and adult leaders, braved a rainy Saturday to dig a post hole and secure the library stand with concrete, ensuring it remains a permanent fixture in the park. Before installation, Jeffrey led the Troop in building, painting, and staining the bookcase to ensure it looked its very best.
In addition to the library stand, Jeffrey enhanced the park's community room and restroom area with fresh mulch and vibrant purple aster plants, adding a touch of natural beauty to the space.
Next time you visit Ridder's Pond Park, take a moment to appreciate Jeffrey’s hard work—and don’t forget to take or leave a book to share in the community spirit he’s fostered!
