Herricks High School Spring Sports Wrap-Up

BY: ALEX BROSKY, HERRICKS HS CLASS OF 2026

Here is your wrap-up to Herricks Highlander Spring Sports 2024.

It’s been a little while since the Highlander’s baseball team made the playoffs and unfortunately, this year was no different. The boys went 2-13 in league games, there were some ugly games, but this team can be competitive next year. A lot of great underclassmen talent is on its way up and the returning players should help this team win some games next season.

While the girls' flag football team’s 3-8 record doesn’t look pretty at first glance, there is something you have to remember --This was the first ever season that Herricks had a team, so a 3-8 record is not too bad. Time can only tell where this program will be next year, but it’s something worth being excited about.

The boys’ track team had a strong season with Jacob Kim, Kurt Ye, and Alexander Kanes earning All-County Honors at the Nassau County Championship and advancing to the New York State qualifier.

The girls’ softball team went 5-9 with a -32 run differential, but they earned an automatic playoff berth and were first tasked to play a Southside team that proved a worthy opponent. Megan Lee hit a 2-run homer but Devin Shah’s game-winning RBI put the girls out in front, taking down Southside 4-3. Moving on to the Quarterfinal against MacArthur High School, the season unfortunately ended with a 9-1 loss.

The boys’ tennis team had a decent regular season, going 6-8, with an automatic playoff berth as a Conference One team.

In the first round against Bellmore-JFK, Herricks easily won all 7 matches. They were the underdogs in the quarterfinals winning 4 out of 7. They played a fierce 1-seeded Roslyn team in the semis with 3-all after the first six matches, but in the final match, Herricks lost by three games, with the final Herricks 3, Roslyn 4.

The girl’s golf team had the best season in Herricks history. They went 8-1-1 in their matches during the regular season, which was a huge improvement from going 5-5 last season. They broke the Herricks win record and qualified for playoffs for the first time.

The girls’ badminton team went undefeated and only lost 18 matches throughout the season, which easily clinched a Conference 3 title. They went into the first round as the underdogs against a Bethpage team from Conference 1, winning 4 out of the 7 matches. Unfortunately for Herricks, their season ended against Mepham, losing 6 out of the 7 matches.

The Herricks boys’ lacrosse team put up a very respectable 11-1 record in the regular season, after moving up to Conference A. They played against Syosset in the quarter-finals resulting in a 19-4 loss. The Highlanders look forward to returning next season and racking up more wins.

The girls’ lacrosse team massively improved their 2-7 record from last season going 10-2 playing in Conference 4 and making the playoffs as an 8 seed. They played against 1-seeded Garden City,  but unfortunately lost 20 -0. The team has a lot of great talent that will be returning next season.

That’s it for the 2024 Herricks High School Spring Sports highlights.  It was a great year for all the athletes.  Best of luck to the Class of 2024. Have a great summer and see you in the fall. Let’s Go Highlanders!
