Local Williston’s Kids Shine in “High School Musical” at Roslyn Theater Company

Williston's local talent took center stage last month in a dazzling production of "High School Musical" at the Roslyn Theater Company, directed by the renowned Jill Studley. This vibrant and energetic performance was a testament to the dedication and hard work of our community’s young stars and their supportive families.

“It’s always been a true labor of love for me,” said Studley. “I am a true believer that any type of musical theater experience nurtures not only social skills but reading and writing skills as well.”

The Disney show turned stage play, known for its catchy tunes and lively choreography, proved to be a delightful experience for audience members of all ages.

From the littlest cast member at 5 years old to the oldest at 14 years, each performer showcased exceptional acting and singing abilities, navigating complex scenes with charisma and energy.

And from the moment the curtain rose, it was clear that these young kids from all parts of the community were not only talented but also passionate about their roles.

Parents emphasized the positive impact of theater on their children. Jill Dorazio, whose daughters Juliana and Daniela participated, said, “I believe putting my children in a theater program helps them build their self-confidence, learn how to collaborate with other kids, and express themselves. It’s also just about using your imagination and having fun.”

Talene Caruso, whose 9-year-old daughter Emma was in the show, added, “She has not only found her passion for the stage but also gained invaluable life skills, including public speaking and self-assurance.”

Mandy Wurtz, whose eight-year-old daughter Charlie was in the cast, remarked, “Charlie has learned so much from Jill and Mr. Steve! I initially signed her up because I wanted her to have another outlet to express herself. Four plays later and she loves acting!”

The success of the production was bolstered by the support from parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and friends. They helped with costumes and makeup, cheered during rehearsals, and supported the performers in the audience.

“After years of singing and dancing around the house, we came across a Facebook post about the Roslyn Theater Company’s production, and the rest is history,” said Danielle Klimek, whose daughter Alexia was part of the cast.

Director Studley’s guidance and vision were instrumental in bringing this production to life. Her expertise and passion for theater were evident in every aspect of the show. Backstage volunteers Hope Landry, Ty Underwood, and Jenna Martin played crucial roles in ensuring the kids were prepared and confident on stage.

The "High School Musical" production featured several performances for different age ranges, highlighting the incredible talent of local youth and the strong network of support that helps them thrive. The standing ovations at the end of the performances were a well-deserved acknowledgment of the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.

“It builds self-confidence and allows children to express themselves through acting, singing, and dancing,” said Studley.

Congratulations to the cast, crew, and supportive families for making this production a resounding success. The community looks forward to many more stellar performances from the talented local youth.
