Mineola High School science research teacher Jessica Carlson has been recognized with the 2025 Teacher of Merit Award by the Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS), the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious science research competition.
This award honors exceptional science educators who go above and beyond in mentoring students participating in the Regeneron STS. Ms. Carlson’s dedication to fostering scientific inquiry was exemplified by her student, senior Fatimah Badoolah, who was recently named a semifinalist in the 2025 Regeneron Science Talent Search—one of only 300 students nationwide to earn this distinction. Fatimah’s research project, "The Efficacy of Different Dosages of M. charantia and A. indica on Glucose Levels in D. melanogaster," showcases the high level of scientific excellence cultivated under Ms. Carlson’s mentorship.
The Mineola School District proudly congratulates Ms. Carlson on this well-deserved recognition. Her passion for science education and commitment to research are empowering students, fostering innovation and exploration, and helping to shape the next generation of STEM leaders.
