Mineola High School has been honored with the AP Computer Science Principles (CSP) Female Diversity Award by the College Board for its commitment to increasing female representation in computer science. This prestigious award recognizes schools that have successfully expanded access to AP computer science courses for female students, helping bridge the gender gap in STEM fields.

To qualify, schools must either have 50% or higher female representation in AP CSP or meet or exceed their school’s overall female student population in exam participation. Mineola High School is among only 847 schools nationwide to receive this recognition, demonstrating its dedication to fostering inclusivity in STEM education.

Since the launch of AP CSP in 2016-17, female participation has grown significantly, with over 60,250 female students taking the AP CSP exam in 2024—a more than fourfold increase from 2017. Overall, AP computer science course participation has surged by 161% in recent years, opening new doors for students pursuing careers in technology.

Mineola Public Schools have long been at the forefront of computer science education, ensuring equitable opportunities for all students. By prioritizing diversity in STEM, the district continues to empower young women with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to become the next generation of tech leaders and innovators.
