Spreading Hope and Sportsmanship: East Williston's Generous Gift to Children in the Dominican Republic

This summer, Sunil George, a beloved member of our community and a good friend of mine, embarked on a mission to make a difference in the lives of children in need. During a week-long mission trip with his church, Sunil and his oldest daughter, Maddie, traveled to the Dominican Republic, where they were part of a medical clinic and engaged in charitable activities.

Sunil had a brilliant idea to collect old equipment, sporting goods, and uniforms from our little league and generous individuals throughout East Williston and Williston Park. The response was overwhelming, with Sunil managing to gather 17 boxes of donations. These items were then shipped to the Dominican Republic, where Sunil and Maddie personally distributed them to the local children.

This initiative not only provided the children with much-needed sporting equipment but also fostered a sense of community and international friendship. It was a powerful reminder of how a small idea can have a significant impact, bringing smiles and opportunities to children who lack access to such resources.

The success of Sunil's initiative highlights the generosity and spirit of our community. It’s a testament to how we can come together to support those in need, even across borders. Sunil’s work has inspired many of us to consider making this an annual effort, allowing us to continue supporting these children and building a bridge of goodwill between our communities.

The generosity and kindness shown by the members of the East Williston community by donating to this small town in the Dominican Republic will be long lasting and impactful,” said George. “It truly makes me and my family so proud to be a part of the Little League and this community.”
