Williston Park Patriots College Team Wins Championship

By Marie Begley

Congratulations to the Williston Park Patriots College baseball team for winning their second championship in three years.

The Half Hollows College Championship in Dix Hills was played on Saturday August 2nd against the Huntington Demons. The team finished first this season and defeated Huntington in the championship game 3-2.

Alex Marcoline pitched 6 innings and Patrick Gay shut it down in the 7th. Emmett O’Brien had a two run single to tie the game at 2-2 after one inning. A pitching duel ensued along with some great defense, including right fielder Malachy O’Brien throwing out a runner at home and then another runner at third to keep Huntington off the board. In the last inning Conor Martin drew a walk and stole second. He advanced to third on infield hit by Matt Bravo. With two outs, Luke Sommese beat out an infield hit as Conor Martin scored the winning run. Coaches Bill O'Brien and Chris Bravo worked hard to support these players all season. Most of the players on the team got their start playing in the Williston Park Little League. This is the second win for the team in two years, they won in 2022 and now 2024 title.

This season was dedicated to our friend and former teammate Rayan Abdolahzadi. Rayan had played for the Williston Park Little League from pre-tee ball and was a member of the travel team for a few years.  Tragically, Rayan died in a motorcycle accident earlier this year.  We honored him with an AB on our jersey this season. The team will be back again next summer to defend their title!

Thank you to all who came out to cheer them on and congratulations to all the players on a great season and a great win!!

Season dedicated in memory
