YOUNG VOICES December Winner: Personal Narrative by Madeline, 4th Grader at Jackson Avenue School

Congratulations to Madeline G., 4th grade, Jackson Ave. School for being named one of the Young Voices December Winner!

The Best Day Ever

I gave a huge yawn before announcing, "I'm so tired."

My mom came running into my room and said, "It's time to go to bed! We are going to Cortland tomorrow." I went to bed and my mom gave me a kiss and said, "I love you, Maddie, goodnight." "I love you too! Goodnight, mom!" I said while yawning.

"Ding, ding, ding!" My alarm was so loud and alerted not just myself, but my mom that it was time to leave. I got myself dressed, cleaned up, and ready to hit the road.

Before we could begin our journey, my mom had to stop for gas. My sister, Hannah, and I packed up our belongings to stay overnight. Once we finished, we went downstairs for breakfast. I made myself a delicious bowl of Fruit Loops. It was super easy to make and I would highly recommend it!

All of a sudden, I heard a loud "skrrt" noise. I knew my mom had pulled into the driveway. We were so eager to leave that one of our suitcases fell down the stairs! "Sorry!" I heard Hannah scream as she made her way down after the bag.

We all went outside and helped put all of the bags into the car. By the time we finished, we worked up an appetite and decided to stop for some bagels first.

Before I knew it, the ride was complete- it took us three whole hours! We were all exhausted. Thankfully, I was able to take some time to rest before dinner. We went to an Italian restaurant near Cortland. My dad and I both got pasta with sauce. I know what you might be thinking- of course we got dessert too!

It ended up being a quick three days away. I was sad to leave my sister, but was already looking forward to visiting again!
